| In the second stanza we start to see some tension between the narrator and the father. The narrator wakes and only when the house was warmed by the father would he dress slowly, out of fear. The use of the work "chronic" dramatizes that the anger was continuing during the course of the childhood. The third stanza begins with "Speaking indifferently to him." he shows no concern for his father. This may not be out of the ordinary for a child to feel of their father; it seems that children do not always see all that parents do and give up for them; parents hope that as the child becomes an adult they will take cognizance of the sacrifices made for them. He did minute things to show love towards his family. He may have not said it in words, but he expressed it in actions. These exiguous actions may have also been the father's way of apologizing to his family for his temper, which caused his child and family to fear him.
