| When the cold weather approaches, I take out the humidifier pad and clean out all the dried up hard water dust etc. and turn on the tap to start the water flow. It has a humidistat and I set it at about 40. After a varying period of time, when the furnace comes on (only when it first starts up after it's called upon to do so), I then hear on occasion, this annoying ratcheting sound. I can certainly make it go away by turning off the humidifier but that defeats the purpose.

Not to try to dissuade you, but I personally find riding through any more than a couple inches of snow to be more hassle than it's worth. For anything less than 2 inches, I don't think that the tire really matters because a mountain bike tire will get good traction, while a road tire will exert more pressure per area and generally find the road under the snow. A road tire does offer less chance of recovery if you slip.

If you want to add warmth and texture to your winter bouquet, use velvet. An unexpected detail can be to intersperse embossed velvet leaves in among the fresh flowers. This looks wonderful with deeper colored flowers, especially if you select velvet leaves in a deep dusty purple color.
